Cassendra A. Munro, PhD, BS, RN, RNFA, CNOR, FAAN, FAORN is a subject matter expert in operating room nursing. Since 1993, she has served in diverse roles, such as clinical coordinator for orthopedic, neurological, & spine surgery, financial coordinator, qualified expert witness, legal nurse consultant, perioperative educator, Magnet and Care Experience manager, and currently as Nurse Scientist, at Stanford Health Care, Menlo Park, California.
Dr. Munro is the 2023 recipient of Award for Excellence from AORN. This award recognizes an individual whose work and accomplishments has had global implications on perioperative nursing in the areas of practice, education, and research. Also in 2023, she was inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and Fellow of the Association of periOperative Registered Nursing.
She is the creator of the "gold standard" Munro Pressure Ulcer Risk Assessment Scale for Perioperative Patients (Munro Scale©) as well as the partnering CMUNRO SCALE© curriculum to educate nurses about perioperative risk factors for pressure injury development and prevention planning.
Dr. Munro received her associate degree in nursing from Quinnipiac College, Hamden, Connecticut, a baccalaureate degree in business and management from Redlands University, Redlands, California, and a master's in nursing from Mount Saint Mary's College, Los Angeles. She is completed a PhD in nursing at the Azusa Pacific University, Azuza, California.
